FAQ

    • Yes.

Split Flap Studio is designed around remote display management.

You can create and update content from the management platform and send it to your connected displays.

    • The management interface is designed to work through a modern web browser, allowing you to manage content from computers, tablets and supported mobile devices.

    • Connected displays are designed to receive updates shortly after content is published.

The exact update time can depend on the internet connection, player and type of content.

    • The Virtual Display is a software-based split-flap display that runs on a digital screen.

It recreates the characteristic flipping animation of a traditional split-flap board without requiring hundreds of mechanical parts.

What do I need to run a Virtual Display?

      Typically, you need:

      • A TV or monitor
      • A compatible media player or device
      • An internet connection
      • A Split Flap Studio account and active plan

The exact supported devices will be listed in our setup documentation.

    • In many cases, yes.

If your TV has a suitable media player or can be connected to a supported external device, it can be used as a Split Flap Studio Virtual Display.

This means you may not need to purchase a dedicated commercial signage screen.

    • Yes.

A monitor can be used as long as it is connected to a compatible device capable of running the Split Flap Studio player.

    • Support depends on the player version and device.

Split Flap Studio is being designed to support commonly available display hardware, including Android-based media players. Please check the current device compatibility information before purchasing hardware specifically for Split Flap Studio.

    • A Linux-based kiosk or media player can be an excellent solution for permanent installations.

Supported configurations and installation instructions will be published in our documentation as the player platform develops.

    • An internet connection is required for account communication, remote management and receiving updated content.

Some functionality may continue temporarily if the connection is interrupted, depending on the player and content being used.

    • Supported dedicated media players can be configured to automatically start the Split Flap Studio player after power is restored.

This is especially useful for commercial installations where displays need to operate without manual intervention.

    • A split-flap display is a type of information board originally used in railway stations and airports. Traditional displays use rotating mechanical flaps to show letters, numbers and symbols.

Split Flap Studio recreates this distinctive experience digitally and is also being developed to work with physical split-flap hardware.

    • Split Flap Studio is a platform for creating, managing and displaying split-flap content.

Our platform combines the nostalgic character of classic railway and airport departure boards with modern digital technology. You can use Split Flap Studio with a Virtual Display on a TV or monitor, or with a compatible physical Split Flap Studio hardware display.

Both can be managed from the same platform.

    • A Virtual Display recreates the appearance, movement and sound of a split-flap board on a digital screen such as a TV or monitor. A Hardware Display uses physical character modules with real moving flaps. Both are designed to work with the Split Flap Studio platform, allowing you to create and manage content from one place.

    • No.

You can use Split Flap Studio as a completely virtual display solution on a compatible TV, monitor or media player.

Physical hardware is an additional option for customers who want the authentic movement and sound of real mechanical flaps.

      • Restaurants and cafés
