Some functionality may continue temporarily if the connection is interrupted, depending on the player and content being used.

This is especially useful for commercial installations where displays need to operate without manual intervention.
- General
- What is a split-flap display?
A split-flap display is a type of information board originally used in railway stations and airports. Traditional displays use rotating mechanical flaps to show letters, numbers and symbols.
Split Flap Studio recreates this distinctive experience digitally and is also being developed to work with physical split-flap hardware.
- What is Split Flap Studio?
Split Flap Studio is a platform for creating, managing and displaying split-flap content.
Our platform combines the nostalgic character of classic railway and airport departure boards with modern digital technology. You can use Split Flap Studio with a Virtual Display on a TV or monitor, or with a compatible physical Split Flap Studio hardware display.
Both can be managed from the same platform.
- What is the difference between a Virtual Display and a Hardware Display?
A Virtual Display recreates the appearance, movement and sound of a split-flap board on a digital screen such as a TV or monitor. A Hardware Display uses physical character modules with real moving flaps. Both are designed to work with the Split Flap Studio platform, allowing you to create and manage content from one place.
- Do I need a physical split-flap display?
No.
You can use Split Flap Studio as a completely virtual display solution on a compatible TV, monitor or media player.
Physical hardware is an additional option for customers who want the authentic movement and sound of real mechanical flaps.
- Where can Split Flap Studio be used?
Split Flap Studio can be used in many different environments, including:
- Restaurants and cafés
- Hotels and hospitality
- Offices and reception areas
- Retail stores
- Events and exhibitions
- Schools and universities
- Transport-inspired installations
- Homes
- Digital signage installations
Because the content is configurable, the same platform can be adapted to many different applications.
